Talking Stocks, Bonds and Blocks!

Investing can sometimes be a dry topic, so I am always looking for creative ways to explain it, make it less intimidating and more interactive. This past weekend, my daughter and I were playing with her blocks, and she kept stacking blocks one on top of the other in her quest to build a tall tower. With the addition of each new block, the tower swayed and I was certain it would come tumbling down.

That’s when the idea to use her blocks to explain stocks and bonds came to me.

There was a certain thrill in seeing the tower get taller, but with that thrill also came an increased fear of an impending fall, as each new block was added. In some ways, that feeling is not unlike the feeling many investors have when investing in the stock market.
